Leadership
That expertise has names. Carmen Magro built his career in turfgrass science; Jeff Campbell built his in soil sensor engineering — 30+ years each, in disciplines not crossing paths until later in their careers, consulting for others. They put their respective expertise together, planned and built TOMi™, the industry’s only monitoring instrument built specifically for turfgrass with the most modern advanced technology available. Their purpose: to lead our industry forward, successfully and sustainably, one turf property after another.

Carmen Magro, PhD CGCS
With 30 years of experience in turfgrass management and consultation in golf, sports, and fine turfgrass systems, from daily play through championship conditioning and recovery, Carmen is inspired by the fact that everyone can have exceptional turfgrass, no matter what the budget or local challenges may be. He takes customer failures as his own, and he wants nothing but success for everyone he meets and helps.

Formal training on both sides of the business — the science of turf, and the art of managing it.
- A PhD in agronomy and turfgrass science, focused on the turfgrass system and the proper monitoring of key variables and their influence on turf performance.
- An MBA in professional agricultural business management, emphasizing the business of turfgrass management, at any level.
- Directed the Penn State University professional turfgrass management program, its turf research operations, and PSU’s Turfgrass Media relations.
- Collaborative contributor and author to several published peer-reviewed articles, presented on a global scale.
Invention and patents
That research became tools — long before TOMi™.
- An innovator in AI-enhanced predictive modeling and visual analysis.
- Inventor on several patents.
- Innovated the POGO TurfPro monitoring system, an early-stage technical system capturing a limited number of agronomic variables and providing visual illustration of collected information via mobile device.
- Created and managed a cultural shift in practices, using technology he spearheaded and a network of partners following his vision.

Jeff Campbell, PhD
A globally recognized expert and THE leader in soil monitoring engineering, both academically and professionally. Jeff leads PURE Insight™’s engineering team.
Invention and patents
Exceeding thirty years of sensor engineering, and the patents to show for it.
- Inventor on 15 patents surrounding soil sensor technology, soil data interpretation and data telemetry in soils.
- Created the original Vitale sensor, later named the Hydra Probe — the sensor that became an industry standard in the ’80s and ’90s, and one Jeff has long since moved past with modern-day engineering.
- Designed and created the PURE Insight™ Ceres sensor in line with its founder’s vision, allowing the newest generation of monitoring to exist, capable of measuring the worst of conditions while still holding exceptional precision.

A career spent at the leading edge of the industry, from his PhD thesis and sensor invention at Dartmouth College (est. 1769) to his present-day guidance for engineers around the globe, and a network to match.
- Extensive experience serving as director of new product development for several companies in monitoring and telemetry. Primarily focused present day on the turfgrass and agricultural space supported by PURE Insight™ innovation and analysis models.
- Has connectivity to engineers around the globe who specialize in key niche expertise, allowing for easy and effective collaboration when needed.
